acid base dG test

this is the worst thing I have ever seen. most grades are below 60%.
nobody but the top are trying or studying.
nobody can do Ksp or even write a dissolving equation
certainly nobody can get a Ksp value
few can do acid base calculations
nobody can even remotely figure DH, DS, or DG!
Do not go on at all next year without a scathing review of each test. That is going to kill your review time but you will have to cut out much of the Honors stuff in the course.

Honors/Reg

go through a series of ions and molecules and ask for the conjugates...
still didn't do the inert gas stress!

Thurs: intro proper titration techniques!! coat buret, drop to side of glass, okay to use wash bottle!

Honors backtrack: compare pH values of strong vs. weak acids and also do dihydroxy bases...
for Ksp...show them table M values...

Le Chat test errors: most labelled the arrows, which was good, BUT those who failed did not DRAW A PIC/CONTAINER to SEE what was going on!!! Class avg: G- 88 D- 81
Some are STILL not answering what is asked for e.g. give Le Chat EXAMPLE!!! with shift!

AP

So far, we have done two part II's and a part I.
On the part I, go over the kinetics question that has the rate law...there are ambiguities in the question (initial vs. eventual rate) but since ALL rates eventually decrease except for 0th order, the question refers to the initial effect. Given the rate law, ONLY things that are in the rate law or can be seen to directly affect the species in the rate law (i.e. pH), will affect the rate of reaction.

Also, the second part II covered: time permitting, set up the ICE and SRFC tables if necessary but then just do H-H while being VERY careful about volume changes!

DO NOT GIVE THE 1999 part II...save that for the second in boardroom exam!
