copy

show the D period class the CK video...emphasize support of all contentions! red light...eg...use planck's equation...

honors

have them draw a few Bohr model atoms anyway on monday...

R

Remind AP to USE the 8.31 J/mol-K value in any delta E calc!!!
dE = dH - dnRT
also remind AP about heats of formation of ions in solution are relative to H+ aq = 0

AND do a dH = dE + dnRT problem!!

AP

put up calorimetry powerpoint; fix solution to #38 in hw.
have reading and text problems and more descriptive chem over the weekend.

light

G: talked about waves: did l, f, v and a calc....but didn't do intensity/amplitude! do thurs....COLLECT LABS AND FOLDERS!!!27!

FORGOT to tell either G or D about the electromagnetic spectrum! Do so on Thursday and preview the density lab writeup.

Regents

get moving...be very practical with Bohr...explaining is optional or for ex. help... go over Thomson w/ all classes to emphasize that the mass of electron was discovered to be so light that most of the mass of the atom must be due to the positively charge part...Ruth= the nucleus.

gas sto exam

people getting sodium sulfite and sulfur trioxide formulas wrong!!
not connecting dec. KE to dec. collision freq due to slower speed at same distance...
some still can't get emp. form!!! rounding by tenths!
can't balance by redox...NOT CHECKING MASS AND CHARGE unless FORCED TO.

Modeling errors

When doing mass number, atomic number and atomic mass, draw RIGHT ON THE PERIODIC TABLE because that's what they will be (incorrectly) using on tests!!!
DRAW DRAW DRAW all atom to mole to gram problems...LARGELY.

After columbus

D: got through Thomson evidence ( beam, pinwheel, magnet, cardboard, charged plates) and conclusions and drew the model
G: only got through beam, pinwheel, magnet, started cardboard....CH brought up great point that pinwheel spinning direction would prove origin of beam!!!
tomorrow, immediately finish cardboard and charged plates.

get to the conclusion of mass to charge ratio and then Millikan's charge per electron.

AP- exam...took full time..AH made the solutions for the next lab.
E: got through ratios of grams to mole and then mole to atoms....

use the workbook!

Day 15-16

15- see other blog

16: reviewed test a bit...went over evidence to conclusion... warn them about spelling and grammar on the next test.
did one more example of law of mult props...
started to talk about dihydrogen monoxide.
then started atomic mass scale...
had some trouble with definition as usual...just keep it simple and don't get into the difficult details....
