Reg Review

CONSTANTLY stress the importance of drawing in explanations...repeat and SHOW for many examples...

I control the book...that can be a positive as much as a negative!

go over dumb questions/answers that made it onto the Reg.
MARK UP/ WRITE OUT info on part A and B-1

math numbers are becoming slightly more realistic...ESTIMATE check answers!

DESCRIBE VS. EXPLAIN!
RELATIONSHIP answers: INCREASE, DECREASE, REMAINS the SAME....as ..as idiom!!!

confusing answers:
as hydronium concentration increases, pH decreases and vice versa!
as the number of dissolved particles increases, freezing point, vapor pressure decrease! boiling pt, osmotic pressure increase!

sat

multiple errors on AP final but they were corrected..thanks to KF...bonus points...next year, sound the warning early about the final...if they are unprepared, they will lose points and, if they fail=3, go to summer school...warn senior boys next year throughout the year...no more repeat PE or JM or KTs!!!

redox test

only got through remaining reactions and just started sp3, sp2 with D and E
forgot about cis/trans fats in D...did do hard water causes soap scum.....

cut the redox test back down to 30 questions...took to long...
had 2-3 repeat questions in the set....eliminate...
orgo: don't forget the dihydroxy alcohols, amides, etc...
also, cover sp sp2 sp3 hybridization...put up video....
nuclear...immediately do problems and finish Monday....assign labs over the weekend..

Mon

unbelievable that there is NO time left. Finished some loose ends of redox today (notation and galvanization).
Must finish orgo on Wednesday. FROM HERE ON IN, just get the material done and END THE COURSE BY MONDAY!!
Do Nuc on thurs and fri, finish Mon and then test on the tues after vacation: orgo nuc and redox (unless they kill on redox tomorrow).

Literally 14 school days left.
Regents: do NOT bother testing; all part IIs must be explained and analyzed!

UPCO question sheets! Put CB worksheet answers on line.

forgot

forgot to teach voltaic cell notation to D,E (and required min voltage to D) on Friday.
Finish orgo by Wed. - Put up orgo worksheets over the weekend!
Nuclear Thurs.

Proctoring APs

first...do activity series lab...and pass out SATII stuff!

comments from students:

given only 88 minutes and then reprimanded and had stopwatches taken away...

snapped at as being late at 7:48 AM

Is there a break? I don't know but mine is Thursday when this is over.

can't wait till it's over...

Post AP

AP exam- class showed for 6:30 meeting and we covered a lot ( PE was a bummer as usual- ban that)

they were cheated out of two minutes on part I and then yelled at for having timers to dispute the time!!!

first question was salt sol and the very basic question about SATURATED solution appeared again!! (last time it involved evaporating water from a sat soln, this time it was adding water and salt to keep it saturated to notice that M didn't change!!!

Honors- finished voltaics and predicting spont. reactions....put off mc test till tuesday and the written part will be along with the orgo II test.

B,D,E today- B got to electroplating...do more of that...D,E only got to electrolytic cell... do another with V requirement and then do plating and electrolyzing water and solutions.....

MUST START ORGO REACTION TYPES MINIMUM ON FRIDAY!!! - finish orgo by wednesday, nuclear and then it's over....
print regents!

AP MOCK II

Only A and K showed out of the ten!
Things to clear up:
flame tests vs. spec 20 absorbance
go over flame colors
spec 20 ONLY works on colored ions!
Beer's Law formula in tables- it's IN there: a = molar abs const of SOLVENT, b= path length typically 1 cm c= conc.

fix 1999 mc question typos...

review srfc vs Kb or Ka

Friday, May 05, 2006

Fri

started redox balancing yesterday....should start with easy single replacements (as in B period) and then do tougher ones in which the final mass balancing and reduction of coefficient tips can be explained..will draw out notes and post...

did ox and red agents today...

AP- waste of time giving part I without answers....they cheat anyway....just post questions with answers and make sure that they explain EVERY answer!

Wednesday, May 03, 2006

Wed

gave the acid/base/salt written test today...not sure that they knew what they were doing...blog the errors.....

AP: calc day so three were absent...
get on the electrolysis of molten vs. aqueous problem again tomorrow..

Tuesday, May 02, 2006

Tues

Honors: started redox in earnest today...only got to rule 3 in D and E...B got through all the rules...

AP: did the exam with the gas eq/kinetics question...doing 2005 tomorrow, 1994 part I thurs and then a good gas/solid eq on friday...
