kinetics eq test

forgot to put on a question regarding K expression from an equation and vice versa...put on next test.

AP: finished thermo on 03/29 and had solubility eq. and thermo test today.
200 points!
first error already- CHANGING THE CONCENTRATION OF AN ION THAT IS GIVEN IN THE QUESTION JUST BECAUSE THE FORMULA OF A SALT GIVES TWO OR MORE OF THOSE IONS AS IT DISSOLVES....MUST REVIEW THAT AND SHOW ERROR.

remind them on monday that, in the DG = DGo + RTlnQ equation that DG and DGo must be measured at the same temperature for the equation to hold true!
If DG at a different temperature were required, then a DGo = DHo -TDSo calc would first be required....

On 3/28 went over the le chat stresses of common ion or removal thereof....
still have to go over adding inert gases...!

should have assigned more thermo hw before the exam and put ws up earlier....the danger of having a thursday test...catches you offguard.

0327

Whipped through thermo but FORGOT to do inc. solubility of salts that contain an ion that hydrolyzes water! Monday...and then assign review work on that.
H: M of Chem 4 is the biggest disaster of the year...no logic, no test skills, no formulas, no thinking , no sign changes, no studying.
get ready for summer school.

Fri Test 0324

Forgot to put a real vs. ideal gas question on the test....
AP whipping through Thermo but more in-class practice problems needed to show what to do and not to do.- Monday.
May get to electro by friday!

it list

MATH AVERAGES- you have been lied to ...those with above 90 math averages, Honors no less! yet you can't solve a simple ratio problem with a square root. You can't solve a simple one unknown equation like PV=nRT?

0321

Major AP test today...done by 9:15 though so we got through a will a ppt form and then parlayed that into % remaining in solution...started a selective precip problem...do two of those tomorrow and then WRAP IT UP!
Thermo Thursday.

Honors: D did okay..86 avg on last test....
got to factors of rates today in B too
E, just finished exo curves with catalysts.......have to pick it up in there....

tomorrow...show particle KE video or some collision drawings LARGE when you describe each factor....

gas law test rant

A DISASTER:
COMMON ERRORS- UNABLE TO DEDUCT WATER VAPOR PRESSURE FROM TOTAL PRESSURE
FAULTY SIG FIGS
NOT USING PARTIAL PRESSURE TO GET MOLES OF A SPECIFIC GAS
THINKING THAT THERE IS SUCH A THING AS PARTIAL VOLUME (NEVER TEACH THAT EXAMPLE EVER AGAIN)
GRAHAMS LAW- NOT SQUARING BOTH SIDES!!!
NO TEST-TAKING SKILLS! NOT USING THE DATA FROM THE QUESTION!!! NOT EVEN USING THE COMBINED GAS LAW HINT!!!
THINKING OXYGEN IS O INSTEAD OF O2
SAYING N = RT/PV !!!
NOT SOLVING MW = DRT/P

st. pats

St. Pat's day:
G- did Ksp to s and then solubility.....
did relative solubilities by comparing Ksps of MX vs MX2 etc.

forgot to tie up overall titration curves...including principal species at each point of the titration curve....do as a do now on Monday.

D- finished spec. heat capacity and just started kinetics.
E- began kinetics and got up to but not including exo endo curves

FORGOT TO DO DEMO: boric acid in ethanol...see monday!

0315-16

0315- finished titrations (still should review 4 general curves and primary species of each part)
H- gas law test...3 people at x help...predictable failure...
0316- started soln solubility...related sol to molar sol to ksp to q vs ksp...went well
H- just started kinetics....d has to catch up now...finish cool curve and determination of c in an unknown ...move on....

0311wknd

finished test grading
HonorsMOC2-
still major flaws putting illustrations into explanations....draw EVERYTHING EVERYTIME FROM NOW ON!
stress STP values and Table C
AP- they don't know that you can ignore ionization when you START a buffer mixture problem!
some don't know oxoacids- DRAW THEM!!!

0313-
Honors- got through vapor pressure/IMF curves
AP- did WA/SB titration up to equivalence point.

0307

did mixing solution of conjugates pH HH calcs and started SRFCs
must elaborate on why buffers work vs. plain acid or base solution neutralizations...draw picture...
in HCl or NaOH solutions, the only thing to react with the added base or acid is H or OH directly which is why the pH changes so much!
Honors- did a really good 8-part question starting with Mg + HCl balancing to gas collection over water to Dalton's Law to stoichiometry to mol fraction to molarity problem...juuust started Graham's ...finish that tomorrow and it's on to calorimetry...test next Tues...put up objectives....

0306

Monday's back:
AP finished Lewis acid explanation (refine the hydration sphere to hydronium ion formation explanation)...enhanced % ionization explanation...
started common ion effect....
H: not in notes online! did two other ideal gas eq derivations Mw = dRT/P

B is way ahead as we are in Dalton. E is just at ideal gas law and with a part 2 test tomorrow...
next test put off till next week...maybe

0302

half day today due to the snow and the day before was a wash due to the ashes...just got through charles's law with two of the classes and am up to ideal gas law with B period.
gave part one of a two part , 6 q, 140 point test today and it looks like the VM VM question killed some of them..their fault for not doing the worksheets....no brainer...

more demos more demos more demos and straight through...no more backtracking...that is it...the end....maybe for ten minutes on the day before a test......
no AP class at all today...acid base results are great so far....stress that Ka always ha H3O+ as a product and Kb always produces OH-
